We stayed in the four poster room on 23rd December 2010. This was a real treat as we often eat there and have tried to book many times before. Beautiful room with fab views of the Minister as usual the food was exceptional the staff are always friendly and helpful with anything you want. Thank you for a wonderful nights stay.

Just home from our yearly weekend stay in York at Xmas, and as always the Guy Fawkes is our favourite place to stay! The bar was VERY busy when we arrived but the staff booked us in quickly and let us put our lugguage in the rooms even tho we arrived well before the check in time! The bar areas are the best place to unwind with the gas lamps and flickering candles! Anybody on this site critising the lighting or furniture has no soul and should get themselves off to a Travelodge! The beds are superbly comfortable and the rooms warm and very very cosy, perfect at Christmas! Room 7 is our favourite with its wood paneling wonderful views of the Minster. Breakfast is hearty and well cooked with great choice! FRESH orange juice too! This must be our 10th stay at the Guy Fawkes we stay at least 3 times a year and as soon as we arrive the stress of modern life falls away! The ONLY downside is the outsde area which is a bit untidy which is a shame because with a little work , heaters, decent furniture and lighting would make a great place to enjoy a drink and a meal! Be back soon!!!

Myself and my boyfriend (Who became my fiance) stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during august bank holiday.
The service that we recieved was brilliant they were very attentive to our needs and comforts and nothing was too much for them. My fiance proposed to me during this break away and the staff was very excited for us and this made the hotel special for us, as they seemed very interested in our news .They always said good morning to you in the mornings and were often asking about your day. The location is fantastic, right next to the beautiful York minister. When you woke up to that view it was breath taking.
We stayed in room 7 which had a four poster bed, it was a very comfortable room and was very tastefully decorated. But was alittle dissapointed with the bathroom as it was on the very small side but managed all the same.
Only thing that kind of bought it down was the fact you had to run out to go get parking permits so you could park your car and the car park was a fair distance away but other that was it was an amazing hotel and would certainly go back for another visit!!

We had an absolutely fab 3 night stay here. The hotel is right next door to the Minster, Old City Walls and Abbey. You are right on the doorstep of lovely little shops and brilliant pubs. It's a short walk to the main town shops, TIC, the famous shambles and all the museums. I do recommend the ghost tour which leaves from outside the minster in the evenings as it's a stone's throw away from the Inn and is a real laugh.
The hotel itself is actually an Inn. There is a little bar with home-brewed ale and cider which is superb. The place is full of historic atmosphere as it is oil lit and decorated to blend in with the look of the old building - still keeping the home comfort feel. We stayed in the small double which is perfectly big enough for two people for a weekend. The room was spotless and the furniture was fit for purpose, but also had a luxurious feel to it, as it too was in keeping with the historic feel of the place. If you are into your history you will know that this is the building where Guy Fawkes was born. The building is really quirky and the floors are a little 'on the wonk' in places which adds to the character.
There were a variety of breakfasts available, but the full English is a must as I've never tasted black pudding like it! Awesome stuff. The Inn does do evening food, but I'm not sure of the times/days.
As the Inn is right by the minster, there is no parking outside, but the staff will direct you to the local car park (5 min walk) and give you a ticket for your car for your stay. It works out at about ££5 a day - which is cheaper than if you paid at the ticket machine. The staff could not be more friendly and we loved York so will be going back next year. I thoroughly recommend this hotel, especially near Christmas as York centre is decorated for the season and you can go back to the Inn to sit and have a pint by the open fire.

Stayed here overnight an a Sunday and would def go back, right in the centre of everything in York and the Minster is practically on the doorstep, the Inn is a little bit run down in the dining area and also the courtyard but it just adds to its charm, food was great, staff were really friendly and the room was really nice, the bed was very comfy as well which was a plus, tea/coffee, milk, hot choc, biscuits, kettle, hairdryer, flat screen tv were all in the room on our arrival, we would def stay here again.
